Audio: Join Monocle editors Tyler Brûlé, Andrew Tuck, Steve Bloomfield and Robert Bound as they look back on the inaugural Quality of Life Conference in Lisbon.
April 2015 saw the launch of the first Monocle conference, which unpacked the enduring theme that has preoccupied the magazine since launch: quality of life. Over three days we brought together 25 expert speakers to discuss the lay of the land in industries from the media to urban planning and the future of everything from our home to our high street – and how to improve them.
The conference programme took an in-depth look at the best projects, people and practices helping to create dynamic cities around the globe. We looked at how you revive the high street and create a profitable and tactile media landscape. We met the architects making neighbourhoods and residences that work, looked at the future of urban transport, quizzed city leaders with fresh plans for rebuilding their metropolises and met the heads of agenda-setting cultural institutions.
